Winter is upon us…

It feels weird to say this, especially when the weather has been great lately. Around 30 C during the day. But you can feel the winter creeping up. The mornings are getting cooler and since our house practically has no insulation, we’re on the verge of having to switch on the heater in the mornings. Still not there quite yet though, thankfully.

I had a company dinner tonight and had to put on slacks and shoes. Must say that it felt a little weird after having walked around in shorts and sandals for about 5 months straight. I’ve been working from home since spring and sometimes you’ll be lucky to catch me wearing pants. I’m afraid I won’t be able to enjoy this luxuary once I start going back into the office. Remember to call before coming over. Consider yourself warned.

Sweden, heaven and hell

Not sure what to make of this, but I’m thinking I must have missed this growing up. Either that or I was just a decade or so late to the scene….

Sweden – land of enchantment, land of freedom, where you are about to see things you just don’t see at home. In America you don’t see beautiful girls bouncing boldly out of the sauna into the snow. In America you don’t see public pornography shops where erotic books are displayed – for both sexes, with government approval. In America you won’t see meter maids who wear uniforms by day and nothing by night….

No wonder Americans have a slightly skewed view of what Sweden’s like……

Dear iPod Mini,

You have been a loyal servant of mine for over 3 years now and we have been through a lot. Especially you. You have the scars to prove it. I used to change your batteries when you were little and it pains me to say goodbye to you like this, although I’m doing it after having tried everything in my power to save you.

Even last night at the E.R., as you were fighting for your life, you bravely managed to play back one song, giving me that last bit of hope that our days together were not yet over. Even as your clickwheel was acting funny and you were randomly rebooting, I could feel your struggle and determination to please. I managed to bring you home from the hospital, and there, you once more called out in vain for Apple support before shutting down and going peacefully into the night.

Deep Thoughts

Sudden wave of nostalgia

I’m sitting here trying to do some work, listening to music. ABBA. Yeah, I know, I know. I’ve been completely obsessed since I saw Mamma Mia! in the theater.

Anyway, I’m clicking around in iTunes from one ABBA song to the next looking at the album artwork. Then, all of a sudden, i get this unexpected flash of nostalgia. Remembering flipping through my parents vinyl records. Putting them on the record player and placing the needle on the black vinyl.

Getting a record back then just was more exciting than it is these days. Everything from going to the record store and buying it to taking it out of the case and placing it on the record player.

iPod troubles

So, I have an iPod mini, that I’ve had for over 3 years now. I’m on my 3rd battery. I’ve used it heavily for the whole time I’ve had it, and I don’t think I could handle the commute to and from work without it. Recently, my headphone jack started acting weird, only playing back one channel. First I thought it must be my headphone cord that has a glitch, but after trying another set of headphones, the same problem persisted.

Microsoft ads

So, I guess the talk of the town (on the internets anyway) are the (so far) two new Microsoft ads starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld.

Microsoft has gotten tons of flack saying that the ads are dumb, pointless and just plain bad. I guess, since Microsoft is spending $300M on their ad campaign, they expect something superhuman. Most people tend to focus on the fact that this campaign isn’t counter attacking Apple’s Mac and PC ads, and blow them off because of that.
