iPod troubles

So, I have an iPod mini, that I’ve had for over 3 years now. I’m on my 3rd battery. I’ve used it heavily for the whole time I’ve had it, and I don’t think I could handle the commute to and from work without it. Recently, my headphone jack started acting weird, only playing back one channel. First I thought it must be my headphone cord that has a glitch, but after trying another set of headphones, the same problem persisted.

I decided to hit the internets and see what they say about this and as it turns out, you can get a spare headphone jack part online for about 20 bucks. Woohoo! I grabbed my iTool (included in the replacement battery kit) and went to work trying to remove the headphone jack part from the mother board.

While I’ve become somewhat of an expert on replacing batteries, my headphone jack skills weren’t up to par, and I accidentally ripped off the connectors on the board.

Crap!

Now what?  I shot a question off to some iPod repair place online to see if there’s anything that can be done. Still awaiting response. I think, I might actually have to break down and buy a new iPod, even though, all I really want is to revive my iPod Mini. I still hope that this connector issue is fixable, so I can keep running my mini into the ground.

Oh the humanity!
